We are very pleased to see Manchester making it to number 1 on the list for The Top Ten Best Christmas Markets In The UK, according to Time Out. Researchers from the website Christmas Tree World used data from Instagram and Google, researching which markets attracted the most people and had the highest number of searches. They also considered how long the event lasted and the average price of accommodation nearby. Manchester took top spot after being searched 60,000 times on Google during the festive season, and garnering more than 8,000 searches on Instagram per month.
Manchester’s famous Christmas market returns! From 10th November to 22nd December, the city will host a number of exciting stalls and events, and King Street is at the heart of the festivities. Following last year’s toned-down markets, this year promises to be something magical for all the family. Picture: sipping mulled wine and tucking into bratwurst as you browse for some goodies and unique Christmas gifts.
10 different zones in Manchester city centre, will be covering the wide selection of food, drinks and gift stalls this year. But don’t worry, they’re still positioned within walking distance from each other, giving you ample opportunity to explore the whopping 300 wooden market stalls. On King Street, you will be able to explore French and Italian produce like delicious cheese, cured meats and macarons. Home to some of the best food in Manchester, the Christmas deli stalls on King Street will have your mouth watering. From Italian cannelloni and arancini, Greek gyros and halloumi fries, to French garlic mushrooms and Salford Rum, there is something for everyone. Middle eastern restaurant Habas, part of the El Gato Negro group, will also be bringing their menu and seating area to King Street.
Opening dates: 10th November – 22nd December 2022. The general timings are 10am-8pm.
More great news; the Christmas lights around the city turn on today, 10 Nov, except St Peter’s Square, where the lights will follow on Monday, post Remembrance Sunday.
Festive entertainment
The celebrate the festive season, Manchester BID, managed by CityCo, is building on the success of last year’s events with six weekends of festive entertainment around the Christmas markets. Commissioned by the business Improvement District on behalf of our retail and hospitality levy payers, #FestiveSundays will see roaming puppets, special performances and illuminated bands take to the retail district every Sunday from 13th November- 18th December. On Sunday 11th December, a special event will also be taking place, in partnership with Manchester City Council and Walk the Plank.
